Officer Raymond Forsdahl began pursuing a 2014 Honda Accord reported stolen out of Paterson after spotting it on Grand Avenue around 3 p.m., Capt. Scott Tamagny said.
The Honda kept going south on Grand before heading west on Route 46 -- at which point police cut off the pursuit because of weather-related safety concerns, Tamagny said.
Minutes later, the Honda crashed at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Cedar Street in Ridgefield Park, he said. The driver, 18-year-old Daniel Sharpe of Elmwood Park, and passenger Jonathan Park, 18, of Leonia bailed out, while two others remained in the vehicle and were taken into custody, the captain said.
Park was captured after he broke a basement window and ran to the roof of a five-story building at the corner of Mount Vernon Street and Bergen Avenue, Tamagny said.
The two who remained in the Accord were identified as Leonely Gomez, 20, of Leonia and 18-year-old Jakarra Clanton of Paterson.
Both Park and Gomez were arrested last year by Cresskill police who said they made off with wallets, cash, change and sunglasses from cars parked at dark houses without exterior lighting.
